In the Netherlands:

  • There are 18 000 dairy farms with 1.6 million cows.
  • There are 23 dairy companies and their 52 processing factories.
  • Dutch dairy sector provides 44 700 fulltime jobs in total.
  • There are 1 billion investments (2013-2015) in new production facilities.

Production

  • The production value of the dairy industry grew from 4.9 billion (2005) to 7 billion euros (2014)
  • Dutch dairy farming and the dairy industry had a total production value of 12 billion euros in 2014.
  • There are 12.7 billion kilos of milk per year, with 8 000 kg milk yield per cow per year.
  • Almost 55% of the milk was processed into cheese in 2014.

Trade

Annual dairy export grew from 3.8 billion (2005) to 7 billion euros (2014), with an average growth of 7% per year.

Quality

In the Netherlands, in addition to the outstanding dairy quality systems,

  • There are 2.3 million checks per year for farm milk for fat content, protein content, antibiotics, platelet count, etc.
  • There are 3 – 5 million checks per year throughout the entire production process to guarantee the high quality of the dairy products.
